Postcard Poetry

Thurso Community Development Trust have led an inspiring community response to the Coronavirus crisis, supporting hundreds of people from across Thurso and beyond. One element of the amazing work they’ve been doing has been a meal delivery service for people who are isolating or just in need of a hot meal. They deliver over 300 meals every fortnight, using as much local produce as possible.

With funding from the Scottish Book Trust we wanted to add a little something to these special deliveries that supported people to feel connected. We commissioned Thurso playwright and poet George Gunn to write a new poem inspired by the far North coastline. We then printed these onto 100 postcards to be delivered out with the Thurso CDT meals.

We hoped these small postcards would inspire readers to write their own small poems about Thurso, encourage them to reminisce about trips to the coast and hopefully pass on their postcard to a friend or relative, staying connected through these times.
