Do you have an interesting tattoo story? Are you proud of your body art and ready to show it to the world?
Painted People is a new audio-visual exhibition that will be part of Northern Stories Festival 2022. Inspired by our Pictish heritage as ‘painted people’, the exhibition will document contemporary tattoo stories of Caithness.
It will feature beautiful, intimate portraits captured by local photographer Susie Mackenzie alongside audio recordings of the subject sharing the story of their body art and what it means to them.
The exhibition will be shown at the North Coast Visitors Centre, interacting with the rare Pictish artefacts contained there and will be brought to life with events and talks related to the themes and history of body art in Caithness and the Highlands.
There will be three portrait drop-in sessions
- Friday 22 July | 1:30pm – 5:30pm – PPP, Wick
- Saturday 23 July | 11am – 3pm – Thurso, North Coast Visitors Centre (formerly Caithness Horizons)
- Sunday 24 July | 11am – 3pm – Lyth Arts Centre
There is no need to book, just show up. Participants will be required to sign a release form. Participants must be over 18.
