What is Blue Health?
When we talk about blue health we are referring to the idea that being near, in or on the water can have a positive effect on you physical and mental health and wellbeing. Out of the Blue: Caithness Arts and Blue Health Project will use culture and creativity to encourage our communities to access the incredible blue spaces of the Caithness coastline and inland lochs, to support mental health and wellbeing.
A series of creative filmmaking and photography workshops for young people that include storytelling, sound design and visual arts will be led by LAC, researchers, creative professionals, local artists and our community partners.
Out of the Blue will use film and photography to empower young people to document their interactions with the changeable Caithness coastline and other blue spaces and to share their voice.
We will be working with researchers Liz Ellis (UHI) and Jamie Marshall (Napier University) filmmaker and photographer Mike Guest and Sinéad Hargan to deliver this arts-based project which focuses on how we interact with the blue spaces around us, and what effects this can have on our mental health and well- being.
The project has been funded by The Ideas Fund, which is funded by Wellcome Trust and managed by the British Science Association with coordinated locally with Science Ceilidh.
