Northern Stories Festival

Northern Stories Festival 2022 will be a spectacular celebration of the stories of the Far North of Scotland, taking place in Autumn 2022.

From the Orkneyinga Saga to Neil Gunn, the festival will be a celebration of the often forgotten tales of Scotland’s rugged Northern coast. Celebrating our ancient Nordic connections and our close ties to North America, the festival will connect the great glens and lochs of the North Highlands with the fjords of Norway and the Great Lakes of Canada with a focus on travel and nature writing.

The programme will include an international line-up of authors and story-tellers from the Highlands, Scandinavia and Canada. Themed around travel and nature writing, the programme will be a celebration of our landscape and the people who live there. An exciting line-up of new cross-cultural commissions will include audio walks and digital installations beamed across continents. The first of it’s kind in the county, this high-profile event will attract international audiences whilst inspiring our local communities.

More information on the festival plus dates coming soon.
