Whiz-kid violinist Chris Garrick
is back again, this time with gypsy music rather than jazz – but of course he
can play anything as he proved during his last memorable visits in 2004/05/06.
He truly is one of Europe's most celebrated jazz violinists but that's only
part of the skill you need to play the folk music of Eastern Europe as it
encapsulates so many musical colours. This is guaranteed to be an enjoyable and
rousing evening.

“This is guaranteed to be an enjoyable and rousing evening” – so said the spiel on the Lyth Arts Centre website – and so say all of us who had the pleasure of being there!
It was full house and from the word go we were caught up in the enthralling music provided by the orchestra consisting of accordionist Eddie, bass player Kelvin, Adrian who played guitar, balalaika and saz plus virtuoso Chris on violin doing a wonderful job as front man.
These were first class musicians who had the audience wishing there was room to get up and dance but instead we just had to imagine some gypsies in the background swaying and moving to the magical and at times humorous music.
Great entertainment at Lyth Arts Centre and good luck to the New Budapest Cafe Orchestra when they visit the Scottish islands.
I hope they have the recipe for the authentic goulash dish that you demand wherever you go!
