Lyth Jazz Exchange 2010Jazz    Lyth Jazz Exchange 2010 Workshops
Sunday 31st Oct. 2pm – 10pm, age 12+

This will be the latest in our series of Lyth Jazz Exchanges which bring jazz lovers and performers together to share a spirit of mutual enthusiasm. It is an opportunity for everyone to improve their musical knowledge and skills and is open to musicians of any age and degree of musical ability.

Previously, these events usually involved a local amateur band and a visiting professional group. However, this year the accent will be more exclusively on musicians based in the area. Two local bands, The Sunday Night Band and The Caithness Jazz Sextet have been invited to take part. Other individual musicians are also welcome. The centre plans to invite one or two professionals to spend the day helping to run the activities.

The Sunday Night Band has more that twenty musicians, many of them wind and reed players, who meet to rehearse regularly in Thurso on Sundays. The Caithness Jazz Sextet has recently formed and rehearses at Lyth.

Participation in the event involves a schedule of activity starting at 2pm and continuing throughout the day and on into the evening with an informal concert starting at 8pm. There are breaks for tea and supper and some time allocated for individual practise. The participation fees cover the workshops, the meals and the concert.

William, Thanks for hosting this event.I really enjoyed the day and found the tutors very supportive and encouraging. When can we do it again?? Catherine

  2. Elizabeth Masden says:

Dear William, I just wanted to say many thanks for the jazz exchange. I had a wonderful time and learnt a great deal. Talking to Sue McKenzie we thought it was a shame there just wasn’t enough time and she said she’d be interested in coming back and doing a weekend workshop. If this were to happen, I’d be very interested.

    Many thanks,
