Alejandro Ziegler Quartet in concert
World Music – Wed 25th Apr 8pm, 2 hours including interval, age 12+
At the centre of this group of well-travelled musicians is the distinctive sound of the bandoneon, that little accordion whose evocative note instantly creates images in one's imagination of the poignant drama of the tango and of an age of brilliantly-lit Buenos Aires ballrooms. But the music itself deserves to be listened to for its own sake and in this acoustic concert performance by young classically trained musicians you will be able to appreciate just how good it is.
Since 2007 the Alejandro Ziegler quartet from Buenos Aires has performed more than 100 concerts in 62 cities around Europe. It has developed its own unique style of tango music reflecting both tradition and innovation. The quartet successfully captures the essence of the traditional larger tango orchestra. Communication between the four musicians is expressive, playful and tight. They flirt with the formality of chamber music ensembles without losing the spontaneity of popular music and improvisation.
