Dab Hands: puppet making workshop for artists

Saturday 13.04.24

What Time

10:00 - 13:00

Seadrift Visitors Centre

In this making workshop we’ll work together to construct a simple version of a giant street parade puppet. Our giant puppet will then perform at the Silent Disco at Dunnet Community Forest on Saturday night. We’ll cover everything you need to know to make a giant puppet – design, materials, construction techniques, decoration, operation. No previous experience in puppet making required. Suitable for artists, makers and performers with an interest in puppetry and street performance.

The Dab Hands is a collaboration between performer Ronan McMahon and designer Fergus Dunnet. Ronan has performed with Blue Man Group, Catherine Wheels, Tenterhooks Theatre, Visible Fictions, and The Royal Lyceum Edinburgh. He specialises in theatre for young audiences, ASN audiences and clowning. Fergus trained at Glasgow School of Art then worked as a street performer for 2 years, before combining those experiences into his current practice of design and puppetry for performance. Fergus’ designs are often bold and playful, foregrounding the performer and their interaction with the audience in memorable moments of visual theatre.
