This week, choreographer Laura Johnston-Scott joins us as Artist in Residence, developing her new project In the Light of the Moon.
In the Light of the Moon is a new piece of dance theatre by LJS Projects, with original composed music, that explores the meaning, metaphor and symbols of compulsive behaviours, addiction and mental health awareness with a particular interest in investigating the challenges of the journey towards recovery.
Drawing from personal experiences, choreographer Laura Johnston-Scott wishes to highlight how important it is to understand the impact of the messages we hear and give ourselves, but also to acknowledge the need to break the stigma around the subject matter and, through this work, wishes create more opportunities to talk about it, – to not be alone.
Laura, along with dancer Lucy May Wilson, combines a mix of dynamic and adversarial movements, and moments of fragility and sensitivity, to tell a powerful story of mental health issues through dance.
Join the LAC team and Laura for a special end of residency sharing. The event is free but booking required.
This project is supported by Creative Scotland, Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, Eden Court Theatre, The Workroom, Plan B, Lyth Arts Centre, Dance North, Step n’ Style.
