Bower Art Garden

UPDATE: WED 17 MAY | Highland Green Health Fund

We are delighted to announce that we’ve received £1500 of funding support from the Highland Green Health Fund! This money will be added to the development pot for the Bower Art Garden.

Kate Thomson, Senior Development Officer for the Highland Green Health Partnership, said:

“The green health projects we are funding this year are diverse and exciting and it is great to see a wide geographical spread of projects supported.

“The small grant fund allows us to support local community organisations who are integral to the provision of green health activity in Highland.”

UPDATE: 28/02/23 | Seed workshop and seed swap

LAC were delighted to have Hayley and Finlay from Seeds of Scotland come and host an ‘introduction to seed saving’ workshop and a seed swap in Bower. The evening was jam packed with information, inspiration & seeds!!

There was so much seed options to explore – something for every gardener! Our director Charlotte definitely left with more packets than she brought and we couldn’t blame her! We have to thank Steph & members from the Far North Seed Savers for generously contributing their resources for the seed swap.

We also had the opportunity to present the findings of our community consultation for the proposed Bower Art Garden. We got to chat to some local folks about our exciting project who missed out on lending their thoughts the first time around.

We are so encouraged by all the enthusiasm and kind words we received in support of the Bower Art Garden. Whilst it was very fun to explore all the different seeds and imagine how they could look flourishing in out Art Garden, we’re still in the slow, boggy phase of fundraising, lease organising and planning. We appreciate your patience and support for this project and we can’t wait to share more about this with you as it progresses.

A big thank you to Maria Scholten, Finlay Keiller, Hayley Shepherd & Stephanie Waterstone for making this event possible.

UPDATE: 20/01/23 | Climate Beacons and the Bower Art Garden

We kicked off our Climate Beacons county-wide film tour in Bower Hall at the end of January! We screened films about land ownership from across the globe and dreamt up our biggest visions for the Bower Art Garden, alongside gathering information from the community consultation.

We invited local people to contribute their thoughts, suggestions and ideas. We were so happy to be met with such encouragement from the Bower community and we loved hearing your dreams for the garden from having bees & ducks, to treehouses and growing sweetcorn.

Our aim for the evening was to tell you all more about the project, how it came about, where it will be located and to ask you what it could be! We gathered so much helpful information to guide us forward.

Please keep an eye out for an exciting calendar of events as we move forward with this project.
