Hazel Cashmore – Paintings

Hazel is inspired by the unique and subtle landscape of Caithness which is both her home and the subject of her paintings. Her work is well known in our county. She is represented by a number of galleries in Edinburgh and also exhibits internationally.

Mal Cowtan – Stitched Textiles

Mal’s works are abstract representations of the landscape. He has developed his own unique medium which uses a mixture of fabrics, collage, mixed media and mono print. His works often incorporate hand and machine stitching. As he lives in Orkney, inspiration lies on his doorstep.

Joe Fan RSA – Painting

Hong Kong born, now living in Aberdeen, Joe Fan depicts various stories and subjects in his paintings, leaving the viewer to decipher their meaning. He is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and a winner of many prestigious awards and prizes.

Morag Lloyds – Jewellery

Morag is a trained illustrater but her work is often inspired by textiles, especially recycled pieces. She also has an affection for discarded jewellery and so combines both, to create unique and beautiful pieces each of which conceals a touch of its own history.

Madeline MacKay – Drawing and Printmaking

Madeline grew up in Caithness and recently graduated from DJCA. She exhibits UK-wide and has received several major awards. She describes her work as using imagery to explore aspects of land in its most open sense – much informed by Caithness and Sutherland.

Ed Smith – Drawing

Ed is a New York-based sculptor, a Guggenheim Fellow in Sculpture and Drawing and an Associate Fellow of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. The series of drawings called “The Labours of Hercules” give us a flavour of his 3D work.

Alastair Strachan – Painting

In his paintings, Alastair likes to explore the places which he and others have visited and recorded using film and photography. He uses painting in all its complexity to describe the visited places. He exhibits internationally and has won major awards.

The Artist Book Group – North Bound

The Artist Book Group is a collaboration of seven Edinburgh-based artists who work in a variety of media. They came together to push the boundaries of the book format, each working within a context of their own practice.
