Friends of Lyth Arts Centre

Lyth Arts Centre has a long history of providing year-on- year high quality cultural events. It holds a vital position as the only organisation in the North of Scotland offering a breadth of performances, exhibitions and cultural engagement delivered via an inclusive cultural strategy.

A Year of Celebration

2017 is a key year as Lyth celebrates its 40th birthday. We say goodbye and happy retirement to our founder William Wilson and look forward to welcoming a new director with exciting new opportunities ahead. The Board has big plans and invites everyone to become involved. Our members have always played a vital role in our sustainability and this is especially important during this period of change. We are pleased to announce Friends of Lyth – our new scheme for those who wish to help generate income towards the cost of running our much-loved centre. It will also help us programme more events, introduce new genres of work and reach more young people through our collaboration with schools.

We invite everyone to consider joining the scheme – you will find details overleaf. The centre is so unique and has so many things to offer to so many people. Please help us to inspire the next generation of actors, dancers, musicians and artists while enjoying your visit to a rather special place.

Lyth Facts

Over its 40 years, the centre has gradually built up an annual programme of around 50 projects attracting attendances of over 4,000.

The programme always includes live performances with plays, experimental work, contemporary dance, traditional folk, jazz, classical and world music, workshops allowing professional and local amateur musicians to work collaboratively and exhibitions offering local residents and visitors a rich insight into many branches of visual art and craft. Options are always provided to enjoy the familiar or explore the challenge of the novel or less familiar.

Recently, the focus has been largely on extending our engagement with children’s theatre companies and their valuable schools work. Our short residencies have also expanded with more companies gaining unique inspiration while spending valuable time at Lyth developing new work.

Although the centre has been able to rely on long-standing support from Creative Scotland, this is dependent on evidence of local involvement. The Friends of Lyth replaces our former Members Scheme and is essential to create financial security.

By joining the Friends of Lyth scheme you will be able to:

  • buy tickets at discounted prices at most events
  • attend an annual Friends evening which celebrates the opening of our summer exhibition (Friday 30 th June in 2017)
  • have associated voting rights at Lyth Arts Centre meetings

The Friends of Lyth scheme is open to everyone at a starting rate of £5 per person per month or £60 per annum. As a registered Charity, we are able to maximise your support through Gift Aid.
